All Saints’ Sunday, Festivals & Worship

Sunday, November 5 is All Saints’ Sunday – a day to give thanks to God for the saints in Christ who have gone before us, who have influenced us, whom we have loved with all the love God gives. It is a day when we thank God as well for the new saints among us, those who have been washed into the Lord’s Church in this past year. We will worship and sing God’s praises on this festival day, that God has made us saints through our Lord’s death and resurrection. Yes, we are all saints; we are all set aside through our baptisms to live and serve as our Lord calls all our lives long.

All Saints’ Sunday worship always inspires our hearts as we remember and give thanks. This year will be no different.

The Epiphany of Our Lord, 2016 & Beyond

The Epiphany of our Lord is a festival of the New Year that always falls on January 6. An epiphany is a revelation, and THE Epiphany is the Church day that marks the revelation of our Lord to the magi. A star guides the wise men from far away through the questioning grasp of Herod and to the child who was born king.

For years Prince of Peace has celebrated this ancient day of the Church by drawing together the themes of Advent and Christmas. We call it FEAST OF LIGHTS! We tell the whole story from prophesies to shepherds, angels and the holy family, until the arrival of the long-traveled magi.

With the special music of a hammered dulcimer and double bass, our choir and costumed friends, we will mark this blessed beginning of a new year with the Epiphany. And we will pray for eyes to see how the Lord reveals his way for us today.

Invite and bring friends and come for this night’s worship and joyous reception following! Learn More…

WHAT ABOUT 2016?

What plans lie ahead? Graduations? Weddings? Reunions? A trip, maybe? Could be a long delayed surgery or a re-start on some treatments.

Wherever you are, whatever you are doing or is being done to you, the Lord goes with you. Scripture brims with passages testifying to the presence of the Lord, granting peace, courage, joy – “even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me fast.”  ~ Psalm 139

As God’s own in this place, we enter 2016 together with all of the anticipation and trepidation that we as individuals may have. What a blessing to know that God has gathered us together and equipped us as disciples in all our following and serving.  Let us pray as we gather in Sunday worship; let us pray in our small groups, from choir, to Mothers at Prayer, Gardening Angels and so many more; and let us pray when we are apart from one another for the guidance of the Lord in every effort – may all that we do bring honor to God.

Advent: A Season of Preparation

It is a season of preparation. Of hope. Advent with its blue highlights commands our attention, because we see it so infrequently – 4 weeks and gone. Yet, like the deep blue of an autumn or winter sky after the hazy days of other seasons, Advent blue raises our hopes of what is coming.

Advent blue draws us toward the one Hope, who goes before and with us. In the face of what has happened recently in Europe and what has been happening to so many folk throughout the Middle East for months and years, the longing for our Hope in Advent becomes that much more ardent.

By the time we enter December, we are already in the season. The Advent timepiece, the wreath of four candles, is already hung, a count-down time to the Christmas feast. We prepare in the season with lessons from John the Baptizer, and in fact will celebrate a baptism on December 6th. And there’s much more.

With cultural Christmas pressing its face at church windows and pushing our to-do lists to the max, we followers of Jesus have an opportunity to become truly counter-cultural. November and December always try to squeeze us into a mold that on the one hand can produce a light and joyful season of sentiment and festivities. But on the other hand, that mold can bring with it unreal expectations and even disappointment.

So, why not walk a different path in Advent – one that goes against the grain. Cultural Christmas [CC] will do its thing. It’s ok to flirt with CC. But as we look to the Christmas feast later in December, let’s try another way.

Instead, let’s devote ourselves to Advent waiting with prayer, hoping with great expectation, worshipping with song we experience no other place, and joining with others – the sisters and brothers in Christ – to prepare ourselves for all the Lord’s coming in our lives. And let’s not forget to ask others to be counter-cultural with us.

Midweek Advent Worship | Wednesdays at NOON

AdventMidweek

Midweek worship during Advent is a blessed time of getting away – from the crowds on the roads and in the stores or perhaps from our crowded schedules that stretch us ever so thin. We gather in the chapel for a quiet time of prayer, scripture, meditation and Holy Communion. We will even sing a song of the Advent season.

In this brief time breaking into the middle of the day, we may listen for the voice of the One who comes into our lives.  Bring a friend and come away with sisters and brothers to worship the One who makes every season possible.
