Prayer Around the Cross: May 16th

Wednesday, May 16th at 7:07pm

What a blessed time of prayer at the end of the day. We gather in the sanctuary literally around a cross and sing, pray, listen for God’s Word in scripture and sit in contemplative silence. We pray for our world and for friends in need, for strangers and for our work as God’s people here.

As we do, we light candles and place them around the cross as a way of helping us recall those for whom we pray and the One in whose name we gather. It is a peaceful way of ending a busy day, as we gather with brothers and sisters to sit before our Lord in prayer.

Invite a friend and come to this brief time of worship.

50 Days of Easter: The Power of Our Lord’s Resurrection

We have just emerged from Holy Week into the joyous light of Easter. It is a 50-day season, that continues to impress upon us what it means to Be Church.

…the butterflies covering the narthex cross witness to the visits, cards, calls made to friends in past weeks

…the flowers from Easter Sunday that we deliver to those who are in particular need and the visits that touch hearts

…a Wednesday gathering that explores how we can share the good news of our Lord with friends who may not care much for Church

…the joy of a wedding long awaited

…worship together on Sundays and Prayer around the Cross on Wednesdays

…looking forward with great anticipation, as we serve in a variety of ways in the community and prepare with excitement for opportunities in the near future.

In the power of our Lord’s resurrection, we know life wins. Death is defeated.  And we are blessed to live as Jesus’ people, as Church.

Prayer Around the Cross – January 31

At times throughout the year, we periodically come together on Wednesday nights for a time of prayer. We call it Prayer Around the Cross. We gather near the steps of the chancel. You can sit in pews or in chairs on the side. Laid on the steps is a large cross with candles all around. The lights are a little lower.

As we pray, sing softly, listen to scripture and just sit in silence, you may choose to light a candle and set it beside the cross. The pastors will lead us in prayer for our world, nation and leaders. We pray for what is happening with our families, dear friends, workmates and strangers. We pray for ourselves – decisions, challenges and joys.

Join us on Wednesday January 31 at 7:07PM for Prayer Around the Cross.

Prayers for Healing Around the Cross

Wednesday, October 18 is the commemoration day St. Luke Evangelist. Following our meal and learning times on that night, we will gather in the sanctuary for prayer for healing. Scripture teaches that Luke was a physician, so on this special day the healing work of our Lord is what we seek together. Readings, prayers, song and silence all comprise this weekday time of worship.

Join us on Wednesday, October 18 at 7:07PM for Prayer of Healing Around the Cross.

Prayer Around the Cross: May 10th

Wednesday Evening, May 10th at 7:07pm

This year in the fall and winter we have experienced a unique time of quiet prayer together as a close to our Wednesday evening. Before Wednesdays Together takes a break this spring, let us join in prayer once again after our meal and classes.

Each day wherever we are, we offer to God our prayers. When we are together in worship on Sundays, we lift our voices in prayers and praises, making a joyful noise to the Lord even as scripture encourages us.

Sometimes it may be good for us to experience prayers and praises another way. With all of the harsh noise all around us and within, times together listening in the evening stillness can surely inspire our spirits.

Prayer Around the Cross is a time of prayer, scripture reading, song and silence.  In this 20-minute worship time, we will gather around an illuminated cross, hear brief passages, pray aloud and in our hearts and experience the silence of prayerful moments with sisters and brothers in Christ.
